Global Risk Institute Appoints Three Distinguished Canadians to Advisory Council
Right Honourable Paul Martin, Professor John Hull and Dr. Jack Mintz to help research institute grow its international presence
The Right Honourable Paul Martin, Professor John Hull, and Dr. Jack Mintz are the first three appointees to the GRI’s Advisory Council, which will also be adding leading experts in finance, risk management and related disciplines from the United States, Europe and Asia over the next year.
The Advisory Council has a mandate to help GRI grow its reputation for excellence in the management of emerging risks and building its international presence. The Advisory Council will also have responsibility for advising the Canadian-based institute on research topics in targeted geographic regions, the educational and training needs of its members, and how it can expand its network with key business and academic leaders around the world.
Today the GRI is announcing three inaugural Advisory Council members:
- The Right Honourable Paul Martin was Prime Minister of Canada from 2003 to 2006 and Minister of Finance from 1993 to 2002. He was an originator of the Finance Ministers’ G-20, and its inaugural chair. Upon leaving office, Mr. Martin founded the Martin Family Initiative (MFI) focusing on elementary and secondary education for Indigenous students in Canada. Mr. Martin has also advised the African Development Bank and was a founding co-chair of the Congo Basin Forest Fund.
- Professor John Hull is the Maple Financial Professor of Derivatives and Risk Management at Rotman. He is best known for his books Risk Management and Financial Institutions, Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives, and Fundamentals of Futures and Options Markets. John is also co-director of the Rotman Master of Financial Risk Management program.
- Jack M. Mintz is the President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary. He also serves on the boards of Imperial Oil Limited and Morneau Shepell, and is Chair and Vice-President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. He is also the National Policy Advisor for the accounting firm EY
