Leading researchers from the University of Calgary, McGill University, and the University of Toronto, came together on April 7, 2021 to discuss Canadian Proposals for a Central Bank Digital Currency. Together, they discussed their design proposals for a digital currency and debated the risks and benefits of each proposal.

In this one-hour webinar co-hosted with Rotman FinHub, the experts discussed their responses to the Bank of Canada challenge to design a digital currency that, like a traditional banknote, would be widely accessible, secure and denominated in Canadian dollars.

The three proposals were released by the Bank of Canada on February 11, 2021 and will be used to inform the Bank’s thinking and advance public conversation on a central bank digital currency design.
