OCTOBER 15, 2015

The GRI is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Coleman to the role of Chief Research Officer.

Dr. Coleman will set the strategic direction of GRI’s research programs in partnership with academic institutions and GRI members. Under his leadership, GRI will foster and deliver instrumental research that is relevant to members’ needs and the global financial community.

Dr. Coleman has been involved in GRI since its inception in 2010 and served on the oversight committee which established the institute. Dr. Coleman also holds the Ophelia Lazaridis University Research Chair at the University of Waterloo, and is the director of WatRISQ, an institute comprised of finance researchers spanning several faculties at the University of Waterloo.

GRI’s President and CEO, Richard Nesbitt, said: “We are delighted to have Tom join our executive team. GRI is about ensuring our members remain at the forefront of new ideas on the management of risk. We know Tom will be able to set a strong research agenda and investigate the issues in risk management that matter.”

In previous roles, Dr. Coleman was the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo and a professor of computer science at Cornell University. He was also the director of the Cornell Theory Center (CTC – a supercomputer applications center) and founded and directed CTC-Manhattan, a computational finance venture in New York.
