The Global Risk Institute invites you to an in-person session on risk governance featuring a case study of Home Capital and its near failure in 2017. This session was first offered in February 2023. We are pleased to offer a second session for those who were not able to attend.

Home Capital Group Inc. is a Canadian financial institution that came close to insolvency despite a reported strong financial position in prior periods. This is a good time to have this discussion as operating models, capital, and liquidity are front and centre on the Board agenda. The objective of the session is to leverage the Home Capital case to discuss the Board’s role in times of crisis. We will explore how Board Members can learn from the series of events and actions taken, ultimately leading to the emergence of a stronger, viable entity.

A networking event and debrief is included in the session time.
We will be joined by Yousry Bissada, current CEO of Home Capital Group, after the case study for an informal debrief on the path to recovery and the current operating model.
