As we approach Canada Day 2021, I want to take a moment to reflect with you on where we are as leaders, as community members and as Canadians. Like so many in this country, when I was a young girl, my parents brought our family to Canada to build a better life for us. Canada Day always held special significance for our family.
Over the past weeks and months, we have witnessed first-hand systemic racism, both past and present, against Indigenous, Black, Asian and Muslim communities. While it impacts each of us differently, the one thing I believe to be true is that there is far less willingness to stay silent. Our employees, our clients and society at large are demanding a different kind of organization – a different kind of government – one that they feel is going to bring everyone along together.
As leaders in financial services, we are well positioned to lead transformational change. I look forward to continuing to work with you over the coming months and years as we build actionable plans to address the risks and the opportunities to create stronger, more inclusive work environments, while building a more equitable and sustainable economy.
