The Role of Equity Investments in Financing Clean Energy Technologies in Canada
This project will focus on how to enlarge and improve private equity financing (angel investing, venture capital, private equity) in Canada leading up to a successful exit (green income trusts, initial public offerings (IPOs), industry sales) for technologies that mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Venture Capitalists and Private Equity investors play a much small smaller role in Canada than in the U.S. in financing early-stage companies, including clean energy ones. Yet, early-stage equity investors should have a pivotal role, if Canada ever succeeds to turn the myriad great inventions to successful innovations. This research will address this fundamental weakness in the Canadian financial system.
